Emergency Department

The Salut Empordà Healthcare Emergency Department is open permanently - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - attending to and managing emergencies and urgent care for all medical specialities, minor or otherwise. The service, which provides emergency care for the L'Alt Empordà area, is equipped to attend to its more than 70,000 annual visits. It has a specially-qualified medical team consisting of professionals from the following medical specialities:

  • Family and Community Medicine
  • Internal Medicine
  • Gynaecology and Obstetrics
  • Paediatrics
  • Anaesthesia
  • General and Digestive Surgery
  • Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology

It also has a team of qualified nurses and assistants specialised in emergency medicine and urgent care, as well as a translation service.

An emergency care professional will perform an initial evaluation of the patient in less than 10 minutes to establish the degree of complexity and act quickly. If needed, the service may request different urgent diagnostic tests: analytics, conventional X-ray, electrocardiogram, ultrasound, CT scan, etc.

The Emergency Department is the cornerstone of the Medical Emergency System (Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques, SEM) to better serve an area as complex as this one, and is partnered with medical centres offering advanced technology for the treatment of the most serious cases.
